Ophiocordyceps entomorrhiza – Creekside Bug Assassin
Last weekend, we spotted the fruiting bodies of a striking yet ruthless insect pathogen, Ophiocordyceps entomorrhiza, at one of our favorite streamside habitats.
We’ve recorded several other insect pathogens at this site before (e.g. Cordyceps tenuipes, Beauveria pseudobassiana, Cordyceps militaris, etc.), but this species hadn’t shown up here until now.
